Mohamed Adel Fathy, the general supervisor of the football team at the Arab Contractors, spoke about the favorite club of Mohamed Salah, the English star of Liverpool, in Egypt, revealing the scenes of Al-Ahly and Zamalek entering negotiations with him before professionalizing in Basel, Switzerland in 2012.
And Mohamed Salah had sparked widespread controversy on social media between Al-Ahly and Zamalek fans, after he stated in his honorary ceremony from the Football Association that everyone knows the club that supports him and wants him to win the CAF Champions League final, adding: “I cannot say.”
Mohamed Adel Fathy, hosted by the “Al-Allaib” program on MBC Egypt, said: “If I know Mohamed Salah’s affiliation, I will not say, we must look at him as an Egyptian player, and be keen to put him in this position.”
He added: “I do not know if Salah Ahlaoui or Zamalekawi, I sat with him when Al-Ahly and Zamalek made offers to join him and gave him a choice between the two clubs, but he informed me of his desire for external professionalism.”
And he continued: “I met at the time with Muhammad Salah, Basem Ali and Ali Fathi in my office after Al-Ahly and Zamalek announced their desire to join the trio, and Salah’s response was categorically, that he would not play except for the contractors or outside Egypt, so I cannot determine his affiliation, whether for Al-Ahly or Zamalek.”
He explained: “Al-Ahly’s offer to join Mohamed Salah was stronger than Zamalek. Zamalek was only inquiring, but Al-Ahly was more serious in the negotiations, then Basel came and Salah preferred professionalism.”
Regarding the reality of the fact, former President of Zamalek Mamdouh Abbas refused to include Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Adel Fathi confirmed: “Zamalek only asked about the possibility of joining Salah, and the refusal did not take an official character, but Al-Ahly was the one who was more serious.”
The general supervisor of football in the contractors said: “Every house has Al-Ahly and Zamalekawi. We currently have a wonderful opportunity to rally around Egypt in the African Champions League final in light of the presence of the Egyptian, African and Arab football poles.”
Al-Ahly will face its traditional opponent, Zamalek, on November 27 in the final match of the African Champions League.
