A few days ago, a girl named Salma Al-Shimi, a model, posted pictures of her wearing the Pharaonic dress, in front of the grand scale pyramid in the Saqqara region, accompanied by a comment, “An urgent queen Malbeniti was found.” Which called for an investigation into the incident.
Hours after the photos of the incident spread, “Salma” was searched for, who was known in the media as “the Pharaonic dress girl.”
Immediately, Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, referred the incident of a girl photographing inside an archaeological site wearing Pharaonic clothes, taking pictures and posting them on her social media platforms, to the prosecution office to investigate the incident and take all necessary legal measures.
“Waziri” affirmed that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is always keen on preserving the archaeological sites and the history of the ancient Egyptian civilization, and that any person who proves negligence in the rights of the Egyptian antiquities and civilization will be punished, after the result of the prosecution’s investigations into the incident of filming.
Back in December 2018, pictures and videos of a foreign young man and girl who climbed the Great Pyramid at night, and pornographic video images at the top of the Great Pyramid, spread, which was considered by some as an ‘underestimation of the history of the Pharaohs’.
The Danish photographer, Andreas Hvid, had posted a video of him on his Instagram account with his girlfriend, during their infiltration at night to escape from the Egyptian Tourism Police to reach the Great Pyramid, where he commented on him saying: “My friend and I climbed the Great Pyramid of Khufu in Giza, fearing We were spotted by the guards. I did not photograph several hours of the ascent, during which we sneaked to the top of the pyramid. ”
The Ministry of Antiquities considered the video a “insult and war against the Egyptian state and its civilization,” as Dr. Ayman Ashmawy, head of the Egyptian antiquities sector, said at the time that the ministry referred the matter to the Public Prosecution Office for investigation, and added that insisting on filming such immoral films is an insult to all symbols Humanity, especially since this is against our morals and values.
Ashmawy stressed that the Egyptian state refuses to practice such ethics and insult one of the most prominent and important archaeological sites in Egypt.
The Danish photographer and his girlfriend faced the charge of “committing an indecent act in a public area,” but the tourist said that he did not know that taking pornographic images was illegal, so they were released, in coordination with the National Security Sector, in exchange for a bail of 5,000 pounds.
Will the “Pharaonic dress girl” face the charge of “indecent act”?
An indecent act is defined as “every indecent act”, according to Article 278 of the Egyptian Penal Code, but one of its conditions is the availability of publicity, meaning that the indecent act takes place in a public place. Article 278 of the Egyptian Penal Code states: “All “Whoever publicly commits an indecent act shall be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding 300 pounds.”
The archaeological expert, Dr. Hussein Abdel-Basir, says that the model will often summarize her punishment in Law No. 117 of 1983, relating to antiquities, specifically Article No. 45, after its amendment, which provides for everyone who is present in an archaeological site or museum without a permit, or whoever climbs Without permission, he exposes himself to imprisonment for a period of not less than a month and a fine of 100,000 pounds or either of these two penalties.
