Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced today, Wednesday, the opening of the 27th edition of the Handball World Cup, which his country will host from January 13 to 31.
Al-Sisi welcomed all the guests in his speech announcing the opening of the tournament and stressed that hosting this great event gives a message that the world has become able to coexist in light of the new situation due to the Corona pandemic.
The Egyptian president said, “I am confident that we will overcome this ordeal, God willing. We will be more coherent and integrated in facing the biggest challenges and more understanding of peaceful and safe coexistence among peoples.”
He concluded by saying, “In the name of God and with the blessing of God we announce the opening of the 27th World Handball Championship for men in the Arab Republic of Egypt.”
The tournament, which includes 32 teams, will be held for the first time in its history without fans due to the circumstances of the Corona epidemic.
The Egyptian national team faces its Chilean counterpart in the opening match of the tournament today, Wednesday, at 19:00 Cairo local time.
