The FIFA Clubs World Cup will be held from February 1 to 11 of the same month.
The statement “FIFA” came on its website:
“FIFA was informed today by Auckland City Club that in light of the Corona pandemic and the related quarantine measures required by the New Zealand authorities, the club will not be able to participate in the Club World Cup 2020.”
“Despite regular contacts between FIFA, the club, the New Zealand Football Association and the Oceania Federation in recent days, the requirements of the New Zealand authorities regarding isolation and quarantine exceed FIFA’s jurisdiction, and therefore, it was not possible to reach a solution.”
“FIFA, in cooperation with the Qatari authorities, will implement a comprehensive medical and security protocol that provides the necessary guarantees to protect the health and safety of all participants in the competition.”
Thus, the first preliminary match of the competition, which brings together Al Duhail, Qatar, and Auckland City, will not be held, for the Qatari team to start from the second round.
In light of this, Al-Duhail, Al-Ahly, Bayern Munich, Germany, Ulsan Hyundai, South Korea, Mexicos Tigres Unal, and the South American champion, which has yet to be decided between Palmeiras and the Brazilian Santos, will participate.
The draw for the tournament will take place in Zurich, Switzerland, on January 19.
Auckland City is the most participated in the history of the competition by 9 times.
The 2014 edition saw the New Zealand club’s best achievement by finishing third in the tournament.
Previously, Auckland faced Al-Ahly in the 2006 edition, and at that time Al-Ahly won 2-0, with the double of Mohamed Abu Trika and Amadou Flavio.
