The history of the novel extends to about 90 years and it is reported that Tawfiq al-Hakim finished writing the people of the cave between 1929 and 1932, but it is certain that the first edition of the novel was published in 1933 and was a breakthrough in the form of Arabic literature.
This came because of the writer Tawfiq al-Hakim’s use of signs and symbols in order to project onto other things, which are indirectly, as the novel has been translated into more than one language, including English, French and Italian.
The story of the people of Al-Kif also revolves around when 3 people wake up in a cave after 300 years of sleep, and they are the two ministers, Michleinia and Marnouch, who escaped from the oppression of King Diqianus, and the third of them is the shepherd of the sheep, Yamlikha, and also his dog “Qumtir.
Then the three return to the kingdom and clash with the changing shape of life between the people and inside the palace, and they enter into conflict with a sense of loneliness because there is no connection between them with their previous lives and their lack of acceptance of life in its new form so that their decision to return again to the cave awaiting death.
The movie People of the Cave starring Mahmoud Hamida, Khaled Al Nabawi, Ahmed Eid, Ghada Adel, Mustafa Fahmy, Muhammad Farraj, Muhammad Mamdouh and Reem Mustafa, and written by the dramatic treatment, produced by Walid Mansour and Muhammad Al-Rashidi and directed by Amr Arafa.
