Former English referee Martin Clattenberg criticized the German coach Juergen Klopp, after the latter’s attack on the referee’s performance in the recent period.

Klopp directed his anger at the English Premier League referees because Manchester United had won 42 penalties since December 2018.

Clattenberg responded to Klopp’s statements during an article published in the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, saying: “Since the departure of Alex Ferguson, no coach has come and is trying to influence the referees like Jurgen Klopp now.”

He continued: “Klopp does this all the time now, complaining about Manchester United players falling to get penalties, but he has to look at what he is doing, whether Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah.”

And he continued: “Let’s be clear, there is no conspiracy by the rulers and officials.”

He ended: “Klopp has the right if the Manchester United players are lenient in order to get a penalty kick.”

Next week, on Sunday, will witness the Premier League summit, when Liverpool play against Manchester United in the 19th round.

Manchester United currently tops the Premier League standings with 36 points, three points behind Liverpool, who retreated to second place after United’s victory in the postponed match against Burnley with a goal without response last Tuesday night.
