The Trump administration is considering adding “Alibaba” and “Tencent” to the ban list

Two people familiar with the matter said the Trump administration is considering adding tech giants Alibaba and Tencent to a blacklist of companies allegedly owned or controlled by the Chinese military.

According to Reuters, targeting the two largest companies in Asia, with a combined value of $ 1.3 trillion, will be the most dramatic step taken by US President Donald Trump so far in the latest set of measures launched against Chinese companies as he seeks to reinforce his hard-line policy against Beijing during his last days in Office.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deliberations are private, said that Defense Ministry officials, who oversee the blacklists, have not yet finalized the plans and are also discussing adding other Chinese companies to the list.

Both companies declined to comment, the discussions were first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
