The White House said US President Joe Biden intends to maintain customs duties on aluminum imports from the UAE, reversing a move by former President Donald Trump to end the tariffs on the last day of his presidency.
Trump said on January 20 that he would exempt the UAE from customs duties of 10% imposed on most aluminum imports in 2018, adding that the two countries had reached a quota agreement that would limit aluminum imports. The waiver was due to take effect on Wednesday.
Biden said in a statement issued by the White House on Monday: “I believe it is necessary and appropriate in light of our national security interests that we maintain at this time the tariffs applied to aluminum imports from the United Arab Emirates.”
