Al-Ahly players celebrate Hussein Al-Shahat’s goal in Al-Duhail

By defeating Al-Duhail, Al-Ahly ended their Arab Club World Cup contract.

Al-Ahly qualified to face Bayern Munich in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals, for the third time in its history, after defeating Al-Duhail Qatar 1-0 in the first round of the tournament in Qatar.

And Al-Ahly had a chance to qualify for the final, or to play for the third place – the best position Al-Ahly achieved in its history in the tournament – or fourth.

For the first time, Al-Ahly defeats an Arab competitor in the World Cup clubs.

Before defeating Al-Duhail, Al-Ahly previously beat Auckland City from New Zealand, Club of America from Mexico, and Sanfrici Hiroshima of Japan.

Al-Ahly lost its first match in the historic championship, against Al-Ittihad Jeddah, in the first round of the 2005 edition.

Likewise, for the first time, Al-Ahly won a match in the championship, on Arab soil.

In the 2013 edition, Al-Ahly lost to Chinese Guangzhou 2-0 and Mexicos Monterrey 5-1 in Morocco.
