Van Dyck – Mohamed Salah – Robertson – Matip – Liverpool
Van Dyck has been absent since last October due to an injury to the cruciate ligament, but he began the rehabilitation period and training with the ball some time ago.
Klopp said in a press conference: “It is unlikely that Virgil van Dyck will be physically ready again this season.”
“No doctor has informed me of the possibility of Van Dyck joining the matches this season.”
And the German coach added, “I do not want to say that this is impossible, but this is not likely.”
Van Dyck’s injury is not the only one hitting the Liverpool defense line, but everyone who plays in the center of defense, Joe Gomes and Joel Matip for a long time, in addition to Fabinho, the midfielder, who plays as a central defense, was injured due to these injuries.
Liverpool managed to include the duo Ozan Kabak and Ben Davis in the center of defense on the last day of the winter transfer period, after Matip was confirmed to be absent until the end of the season as well.
“Ozan Kabak and Ben Davis will not participate in the Brighton match on Wednesday … I must give them several days to get along with the team,” Klopp said.
Davis joined the Reds from Preston North End on a long-term contract, and Kapak joined from Schalke 04 on loan.
About the level of Thiago Alcantara, he said, “Good. He had to learn how to play and we had to know how to play, and this usually takes time and we had to do this (to participate) without changing a lot of things.”
He added, “At Bayern he was playing in No. 6 in double roles, and here we decided to adapt to his position. His level adds stability and makes us use his skills, which are really great.”
Klopp abandoned his Japanese player Takumi Minamino and agreed to join Southampton until the end of the season on loan.
The Premier League champions commented, “Minamino is a great player, but in fact we did not give him enough chances.”
He finished, “He has 17 matches with Southampton. If he maintains his fitness, there is a good chance to play all the matches.”
Liverpool are third in the Premier League table and are preparing to face Brighton on Wednesday.
