“I have a strong relationship with Jose, because he trained me before at Boavishta Club,” Gomez said on Al-Ahly channel.
He added, “I received an offer to join Al-Ahly when Jose was coach of the team in 2007, but I preferred to continue with Benfica in order to guarantee my presence with the Portuguese national team.”
And he continued, “Jose achieved many achievements with Al-Ahly, and what he achieved deserves a statue on him at the club’s headquarters.”
Gomez is a junior at Wafishta and was promoted to the first team in 1994.
Gomez moved to Benfica in 1997, before playing for Fiorentina for two seasons and returning to Benfica.
Gomez played with Braga in 2011 and moved to Blackburn in 2012 before retiring in 2014.
Gomez has participated in 79 international matches for Portugal, and scored 29 goals.
