FilGoal | News | Southampton coach after the 9-0: Our loss against United is more painful than the fall to Leicester

Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhotel sees his team’s 9-0 loss from Manchester United more painful than the same score against Leicester City last year.

United beat Southampton 9-0 in the 22nd round of the Premier League, the same result the team lost against Leicester City in the tenth round last season.

“We lost in an ugly way, but we were less ugly (than the team’s loss against Leicester City 9-0) because we are in a position we have not been in for a long time,” Hasenhotel said in remarks carried by the British “Sky Sports”.

Southampton is 12th, with 29 points from 21 games.

“You do not need this result in order to know that you need to be better. It is not less painful (than the loss of Leicester City), but more painful because it is repeated and from a different team.”

“Southampton is different, and the reason is that we are presenting a good season so far, to see how the season will end, but I think it will end in a better position than what we achieved last season.”

Southampton finished 11th in the league with 52 points.

“The only thing we have to do now is to show that we are a better team than the one who played against Manchester United.”

And he continued, “What do you expect when you play minus two minutes after the match? The last 5 goals we conceded were very easy.”

He explained that the memories of Leicester’s defeat affected the players during the match, “I am sure it came to their minds. I cannot deny that I did not think about it either.”

Regarding Alexander Jankowitz’s dismissal after two minutes, he said: “The players were helpless after he was sent off. He was sent off early and we had 90 long minutes ahead of us.”

“No one is talking about the first or second expulsion, but they are talking about the result that we have to live with,” he concluded.

Jankowitz was sent off after violently interfering with Scott McTomenay before Jan Bednarik was sent off in the 86th minute when Manchester United were leading 6-0.
