On charges of participating in the protests in support of the opposition Alexei Navalny, Russia did. At the expulsion of 3 diplomats from Germany, Poland and Sweden, which led to a wave of European anger and statements from European leaders condemning that step.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Moscow’s expulsion of European diplomats, on Thursday.

Macron denounced the poisoning and arrest that Navalny was subjected to.

A few days ago, a Russian court sentenced Navalny, a Russian dissident, to about 3 and a half years in prison, in a move that aroused world opinion against Russia.

For its part, German Chancellor Angela Merkel considered that Moscow’s expulsion of European diplomats was “unjustified.”

She said, “Moscow’s expulsion of European diplomats will not remain without a response.”

The Polish Foreign Ministry announced that the Russian ambassador had been summoned to protest the expulsion of one of its diplomats in Moscow.

The protests erupted in Russia during the past days in support of Navalny and to demand his release from prison.

Russian authorities have arrested thousands of demonstrators under the pretext of participating in unauthorized protests.
