After a dazzling show and a historic victory over the Vita Club in the Congo in the African Champions League, the international break came to freeze the enthusiasm and passion of the Al-Ahly fans and force them to wait for more than two weeks until they see his team again.
The last appearance of Al-Ahly club was on March 16 in the Congo at Al-Shuhada Stadium in the Vita Club match in the fourth round of the African Champions League groups, and since then Al-Ahly has not played any official matches.
Yallakora reminds his followers of the events of the last match of Al-Ahly club against Vita Club, when Mohamed Sharif scored the first goal of the African champion in the sixth minute to put the owners of the land in a real dilemma.
After Sharif’s goal, Mohamed Magdi Afsha returned to kill the match very early, with dribbling inside the penalty area and a powerful shot that hit the post and hit the net in the 19th minute.
Al-Ahly banned Vita Club from visiting their net before succeeding in adding the third goal in the 78th minute, after a cross from Walter Bwalya that Taher Mohamed Taher turned into the net, announcing the end of the match with a victory for the defending champion.
Al-Ahly was a strong candidate to bid farewell to the championship early if it lost against the Vita Club in the Congo, but turned its path to an extraordinary candidate to qualify and top the group after winning away from home with that amazing performance.
Al-Ahmar raised his score to 7 points in second place behind the leaders Simba, Tanzania, two rounds before the end, and in the event that Al-Ahly wins the last two matches, he will lead his group, either by points difference, goals, or direct confrontations from the Tanzanian team.
What has changed?
Al-Ahly club recovered its long-ago absent player, Walid Suleiman, to enter its list in the Mars match scheduled for April 3, next Friday, 18 days after the last appearance against Vita Club.
However, Al-Ahly club lacked great strength in midfield after its player Hamdi Fathi was injured with the Egyptian national team at the end of the African Nations Cup qualifiers, to be absent from the stadiums for a period of 8 to 10 weeks after surgery on the left forearm and the installation of a bracket and medical nails.
Thus, Betso Mosimane’s options in the midfield decreased, while the attack increased after the return of Walid Suleiman, a member of the golden generation of former Portuguese coach Manuel Jose, who has great experiences.
Al-Ahly, Simba, the Tanzanian, the Congolese Vita Club, and the Sudanese Al-Merrikh, each played 4 matches, and the Sudanese team is the only one that has not achieved any victory so far.
Simba leads with 10 points, then Al-Ahly with 7 points, followed by Vita Club with 4 points, and Al-Merrikh Al-Sudani with only one point.
Al-Ahly needs to beat Mars in Sudan to formally qualify after reaching the tenth point, which is the maximum number of points that the losing club can reach against Al-Ahly in direct confrontations.
But Pitso Mosimane’s team aims to lead, in order to avoid facing one of the champions of the other three groups in the quarter-finals, and to postpone the giant challenges to the semi-finals or the final if they manage to reach the farthest point in the tournament.
