Ethiopian Foreign Minister Demiki Mekonnen said that his country is interested in continuing the talks led by the African Union on the Renaissance Dam, noting that Addis Ababa has no interest in harming the interests of Egypt and Sudan through the Renaissance Dam.
He indicated in a statement by the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry, on “Facebook” that the tripartite talks that took place to address the concerns of Sudan and Egypt from the dam, confirm that his country remains always committed to resolving issues through negotiations.
He expressed Ethiopias interest in continuing the talks led by the African Union headed by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and said that the talks to change the modalities of the negotiations should be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the document signed in 2015.
He stressed Ethiopias “legal” and “sovereign” right to use the Nile water for development in a fair and equitable manner.
And the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, confirmed that his country would continue the second phase of filling the Renaissance Dam, coinciding with the negotiations.
