Hazem Imam, a former Zamalek player, has revealed his confidence in the ability of the white team to maintain the top of the Egyptian Premier League even after Al-Ahly ends their deferrals.
In statements to “On Time Sports,” Hazem Imam said: “Zamalek is the league leader, and it is much better than last season in the same competition, despite Al-Ahly’s postponements.”
Zamalek occupies the top of the league temporarily with 33 points, collected from 14 games, 6 points ahead of Al-Ahly, who played only 11 games, and if he wins his three scales, he will beat the White by 3 points.
Imam added: “Even if Al-Ahly ends their deferrals, Zamalek will remain in the lead by beating Al-Ahly in the postponed summit match between the two teams, and things will go well.”
Regarding the difficult situation in the Champions League, Imam said: “I followed the last team’s training, and I was happy with the seriousness of the players in training and dealing with the current situation with great focus.”
Zamalek lost, back and forth, to Tunisias Esperance, to stop at only two points from four matches, to become behind Mouloudia Algeria by 6 points before two rounds.
Zamalek needs a historic victory over Mouloudia in Algeria in the next round, then a victory over Senegalese Twinget at the end of the group matches, on the condition that Mouloudia loses to Esperance in the final match in order to qualify for the Egyptian team.
Imam concluded: “I am optimistic about Zamalek’s qualification in the Champions League, if we win in the next match, things will be fine in the league and the Champions League.”
