Anwar Fawzi, head of the Real Estate Tax Authority, called on citizens to quickly submit tax returns for their real estate units, before the prescribed period expires, which ends on March 31.

Fawzi said, in a press release of the Ministry of Finance today, Wednesday, that citizens can submit declarations in any real estate tax office without being bound by the office in which the unit is located, and the declaration can also be submitted via the “Digital Egypt” platform on the Internet: «https://digital.gov.eg»That allows citizens to submit real estate tax returns for housing units electronically.

He added that the department and the subordinate missions provide all assistance and assistance to citizens in this regard, noting that it has been decided to extend the work of the authority, regions, and its departments until six in the evening, all days of the week, including Friday and Saturday, until the end of this March, in order to facilitate the citizens.

The head of the Real Estate Tax Authority clarified that the deadline for submitting tax returns will not be extended after this date, adding that the date for submitting tax returns had started on the first of last July and was scheduled to end by the end of December 2020, but Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, decided to extend the deadline. Filing tax returns for a period of “three months” that ends at the end of March; To give the respondents an opportunity to submit their tax returns on what they own or benefit from from real estate units, and this comes within the framework of facilitating them in light of the precautionary measures, due to the repercussions of the Corona virus.

Fawzi added, that private housing whose market value is less than 2 million pounds is exempt from real estate tax, so that its owner submits an exemption request on “Form 6” attached to it “A statement of real estate wealth on Form 6 duplicate” that includes a statement of all the units he owns or benefits from. At the level of the Republic, explaining that if the market value of the real estate unit “private housing” reaches 2 million pounds, the real estate tax due on it is only 120 pounds annually, and if it reaches two and a half million pounds, the tax is 750 pounds, and if it reaches 3 million pounds, the tax is 1380 pounds.

He pointed out that private housing whose annual net rental value is less than 24 thousand pounds is exempt from real estate tax as well, so that its owner submits an exemption request on “Form 6” attached to it “A statement of real estate wealth on Form 6 duplicate” that includes a statement of all the units he owns or benefits from. At the level of the Republic, pointing out that the real estate tax is raised in the event that the property is totally or partially destroyed in a way that prevents the use of the property in whole or in part, and if the land independent from the built real estate becomes unused, so that the taxpayer submits a request to the authority to assess and collect the tax, provided that it is examined The inventory and assessment committees decide this request and decide whether to raise the tax or not.

He pointed out that the real estate tax is paid annually in two equal installments, the first from January to the end of June, and the second installment from the first of July until the end of December of each year.
