Hormones secreted by the thyroid gland affect various body functions. Its disturbances are reflected in cardiovascular health, blood pressure levels, in addition to its other health effects, such as: infertility, water retention, difficulty sleeping, shaking hands, irregular menstruation and inability to concentrate.
In this article, we provide some advice for the proper handling of this health problem without an imbalance in the individual’s weight.
What is the relationship between thyroid problems and weight?
Hypothyroidism causes unexplained weight gain. In cases of hyperthyroidism, the body suddenly loses weight.
Thus, the relationship between them is an inverse relationship.
Why should a thyroid patient avoid these foods?
Soy protein: affects the blocking of thyroid hormone absorption in the body.
Solid vegetables: such as kale, cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli, which contain a chemical that slows down the thyroid gland.
Gluten-rich wheat products: such as flour, oats and pasta, because they affect the thyroid gland functions in the body.
Fats and pans: because they increase the possibility of infections in the body, and thus, disturbances in the functioning of the thyroid gland.
Caffeine: affects the absorption of thyroid drugs in the intestine, which impedes the regulation of thyroid secretions.
Processed foods: They contain large amounts of sodium and lead to severe hyperthyroidism.
Excess iodine changes the thyroid hormone level. Therefore, it is important to consume moderate amounts of iodine without an increase or decrease (between 100 and 150 mcg / day). It is found in: fish, eggs, cheese, dairy, and dried phobias.
