Most research indicates that everything in the brain stops once a person dies, but recently a shocking new study found a set of “zombie” genes that are active for hours after death.

A team from the University of Illinois Chicago found a group of inflammatory cells called “glial cells”, whose activity increases and grows to a relatively massive size after death.
According to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, the researchers monitored the activity of genetic secretions in the brain tissue of the deceased just and noticed that they sprout long limbs for several hours after death.
Although gene activity after death may seem strange, experts explained that this is because these cells generally work to repair damage after brain injuries such as oxygen deprivation or a stroke.
In the study, the researchers analyzed the brain tissue collected during the surgery, and found that about 80% of the genes analyzed remained relatively stable for 24 hours, and were not affected much.
And there was a group of genes that were getting more active while the neuronal genes were degraded, and the increase in activity lasted for about 12 hours.
Dr. Geoffrey Loeb, Chair of the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Chicago, said: “Most studies assume that everything in the brain stops when the heart stops beating, but this is not the case, and our findings will be needed to explain the research on tissue. The human brain ”.
