Philip Adams, a player for the San Francisco 49th American soccer team, killed five people before committing suicide on Thursday.
Among the five dead was a prominent South Carolina doctor, his wife and their two grandchildren, ages 9 and 5.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said Adams’ parents lived in Rock Hill near the home of the doctor, who was treating the player.
The source added that Adams killed himself after midnight with a .45 caliber weapon.

The York County sheriff’s office said the search took hours before the suspect was found in a nearby home.

Adams, at the age of 33, has played for several teams including Seventy Sixers and Atlanta Falco.
