“BAFTA” … “Nomadland” seizes “Best Film” award


The British Film Academy “BAFTA” announced the winners of its annual awards, on Sunday evening, in a virtual ceremony that was broadcast from the Royal “Albert” Hall in the capital, London, during a ceremony limited to the Corona pandemic.

Nomadland won four awards, including Best Picture.

The film’s director, Chloe Zaw, became the second woman to win the Best Director award in BAFTA history, and superstar Francis McDormand was also the recipient of the Best Actress award. The film also won the Best Cinematography award.

The comedy film “Promising Young and Woman” also won the Best British Film award, directed by Emerald Fennell, and won the Best Actor award, star Anthony Hopkins (83 years old) for the role of a man struggling with mental illness in “The Father”.

The festival, which has been criticized in the past for awarding its awards to whites only, has awarded its awards this year to a variety of talented people, including British star of color Daniel Kaluuya, as well as Bucky Bakari, and veteran Korean actress Yeoh-Jung Yeon.
