The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced yesterday, Wednesday, the date of the draw for the African Nations Cup, and the date of the start of the continental competition scheduled for next year in Cameroon.
CAF decided that the draw will be held on June 25, and the tournament will be held from January 9 to February 9, 2022.
23 of the 24 teams qualified for the 2022 African Cup of Nations finals, as follows:
Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Ghana, Sudan, Gambia, Gabon, Morocco, Mauritania, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Egypt, Comoros, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, and Ethiopia.
It is expected that the Benin or Sierra Leonean national team will complete the qualifying contract at a later time, after their match, which was scheduled for last Tuesday, was postponed until further notice, after the Benin national team objected to the results of Corona virus analyzes that proved the infection of 6 of its players, and accused Sierra Leone of fraud.
The Benin national team ranks second in Group 12, behind Nigeria (pre-qualified), with 7 points, while the Sierra Leone team ranks third with 4 points.
The Benin team needs to draw or even defeat by a goal in its match against Sierra Leone, to snatch the second qualifying card from Group 12, while the Sierra Leone team needs to win by two goals.
