The third preview of Android 12 developers has arrived, and among the new batch of updates are new OS-level tools to help app developers make more use of the camera and touch devices found in recent Android brands.

App launch animations, call notifications, and app linking are among the other adjustments made in this release.

According to a report carried by the Verege, it is confirmed that it is a developer-focused beta, which means that a lot of this may change before the full release of Android 12 later this year.

However, it is likely that the final preview will be before Android 12 enters beta next month which means that the preview should provide some useful hints about Google’s priorities for the next major version of Android.

The preview gives developers more options for how to present haptic feedback in their apps, an important development given the strides Apple has taken with haptic feedback on its devices.

Google says these new haptic feedback options should help with everything from UI events to effects in games. The Pixel 4 APIs have been improved for now, and Google says it is working with other manufacturers to expand support across more devices. .

The animation for launching applications gets a long period of time

There is also better camera support for ultra-high-resolution sensors, such as those with Quad or Nona Bayer patterns like the Galaxy S21 Urtla.

Platform-level APIs will help developers make better use of these cameras, Google says, which should translate into better performance than third-party camera apps.

Call notifications get a new template to make them clearer, easier to understand at a glance, and more consistent with other notifications. The way Android handles links to specific apps to open the browser by default, instead of the standard app selector dialog, also changes.

The app launch animation is also seeing a transformation, including the new splash screens.

There are also several additional tweaks that Google makes with its third developer preview, which touches on everything from how apps present alerts to machine learning and bug fixing options.

And if you are a developer, you can get the new preview now from the Google developer site for Pixel 3 and later (otherwise you will receive the new preview as an update if you are already running developer preview), the new preview is also available in the Google Emulator for Android.
