Toni Kroos and Vinicius Junior – Real Madrid and Liverpool
Toni Kroos played a key role in Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
“A lot of things went well in the first half. I think we started the match very enthusiastic and focused on our game plan,” Kroos said in comments published in the Liverpool Echo newspaper.
“We tried to attack them early because we knew that they were playing in defense without their main players. We thought it would be a good chance to win the ball very early and things went well.”
“When we had the ball, our plan was to keep the ball, maintain possession and play forward. And when we lost the ball, we recover it very quickly, I think that this is the main key to this great first half,” he added.
Kroos played a wonderful long ball that made the first goal for Vinicius Junior, while a pass from the German led to a mistake by Trent Alexander-Arnold as Marco Asensio scored the second goal for Real Madrid.
“We studied the opponent and tried to attack him in his weak points. We made them fail to play the ball easily to the front line because we all know the quality they have in front, as most of Liverpool’s strength is in the offensive line,” he stressed.
He continued, “There is no doubt that we deserved to win. The second half was a bit different with the acquisition of Liverpool more, but we created some opportunities as well.”
“The result was good,” Kroos believes, “but it was possible to score 4 or 5 goals.”
The 2014 World Cup champion warned of the second leg, saying: “All things can happen, and we know that. We will have to defend there and attack as well to try to cross into the semi-finals.”
The winner against Real Madrid and Liverpool will play against the winner of the match between Chelsea and Porto in the Champions League semi-final.
Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior led his team to an important victory over Liverpool, 3-1, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
The Spanish team defeated its English counterpart by three, including the young Brazilian striker, who scored two goals, during the match that was held at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium, the royal stronghold.
Real Madrid overcame Liverpool before the rematch, which will be held next week at Anfield, the Reds stronghold. He also overcame the injuries that hit his team hard before the upcoming confrontation.
In addition to Vinicius’ double against Liverpool, Marco Asensio also scored, while the goal of the English team came through the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.
