Al-Ahly coach Pitso Musimani confirmed that his team will not beat Al-Merrikh, Sudan, in the fifth round of the African Champions League groups, with only wishes.
At the press conference preceding the match, which will be held on Saturday, Pitso said: “Our goal is to win against Mars and return to Cairo with three points, but this does not happen only with wishes, we have to do our best.”
Musimani expected that the match between Al-Ahly and Al-Merreikh in Sudan would be of an offensive character, given the desire of both teams to win the match, his team in order to qualify and lead, and Al-Merreich to improve the image after the exit.
Pitso added, “The match against Mars will be difficult. We have 6 points remaining, like every team in the group, and based on these points, the fate of the clubs qualifying for the next round will be decided, and we strive to win tomorrow (Saturday) to qualify and compete for the lead.”
Musimani added, “Injuries are part of football, but we are dealing with the status quo, without denying the importance of the duo Ali Maaloul and Hamdi Fathi to the team, but at the same time we have distinguished alternatives and are able to deal with all situations.”
Pitso ended by talking about the return of international players before traveling directly to Sudan, saying: “These conditions are experienced by all clubs after the international suspension, but we will work according to what is available to us.”
