Schalke regained the taste of victory that he had missed throughout 12 consecutive matches in the German Football League (Bundesliga) and beat Augsburg 1/0 today, Sunday, in the twenty-eighth stage of the competition, to be the first victory for the team since last January. Mainz to host Cologne 3/2.
The winning goal for Schalke came three minutes after the start of the match and was scored by Swat Serdar, as a celebration for the player’s birthday, and the goal was the first for Schalke at home in six matches.
Schalke achieved his second victory this season in exchange for 19 defeats and seven draws, bringing his tally to 13 points in the last eighteenth place, 13 points behind the closest stay in the first division, while Augsburg stuck at 32 points in the eleventh place.
And earlier this season, Schalke failed to achieve any victory in 30 games in the Bundesliga, counting the results of last season, and came very close to the equivalent of the negative record for Tasmania Berlin, who missed victories in 31 consecutive games in the Bundesliga, but Schalke beat Hoffenheim 4/0 in January, taking advantage of a hat-trick by Matthew Hope.
Mainz greatly boosted his chances of remaining in the first division, after he scored a difficult victory over his host Colon, defeating them 2/3.
Mainz raised his score to 28 points to jump to fourteenth place, two points behind Hertha Berlin and Armenia Bielefeld, while Cologne stuck at 23 points in seventeenth place before the last.
Jean-Paul Poitos opened the scoring for Mainz in the 11th minute, then Colon equalized with a goal by Underrej Duda from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute.
In the second half, Colon advanced with a goal scored by Elias El-Skhiri in the 61st minute, but Mainz settled the match in his favor with two goals scored by Karim Onisio and Leandro Barreiro in the 65 and 90 minutes.
