Tehran confirms that an Iranian ship was attacked in the Red Sea
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that an Iranian merchant ship had suffered an “explosion” in the Red Sea, causing minor damage.
In his statement, Khatibzadeh indicated that Iran had previously officially informed the International Maritime Organization of the United Nations, that “the civilian ship Soyuz was stationed in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden region to establish maritime security along the shipping lines.”
The Iranian Tasnim news agency reported yesterday that the “Soyuz”, used by the armed forces, was damaged by the explosion of “sticky mines.”
For its part, the American “New York Times” newspaper reported that the operation was carried out by “Israelis”, without any comment from the Israeli side.
