The King series: Amr Youssef’s beard and Reem Mostafas cloak provoke a wave of ridicule

The footage of actors Amr Youssef and Reem Mostafa had the biggest share of irony.

Joseph did not give up his beard to present the character of the Pharaonic king, who experts say that documents and history books prove that he was not bearded, like the kings of the Pharaohs.

The appearance of the beard on the face of someone who is supposed to convince the viewer that he is the king “Ahmose” aroused the ridicule of the observers and angered the specialists.

Among them is the Egyptian actor Tamer Farag, a specialist in antiquities, who posted a video on his Instagram page expressing his anger, even if he expressed admiration for the work potential and appreciation for his colleagues.

Some specialists also clashed with the antiquities researcher and tour guide Ahmed Al-Senussi, who, in many publications, on his Facebook page, defended the dramatic work and its details, especially “Ahmose’s beard.”

Tamer Farag commented on the publication of Al-Senussi, saying that it is a “historical fallacy” and that he “did not give the scientific integrity its right.”

Al-Senussi also responded to tourist guide Ahmed Sameh in a series of tweets through his account.

In the promotional video for the series, actress Reem Mustafa, who plays the daughter of the King of the Hyksos, is shown wearing the “malaa” which is known to women in Alexandria in the modern era and to this day.

Mustafa appeared with dyed hair, which was an additional reason for mocking her performance of the historical figure.

After the attack and the mockery of the actresss appearance, the series’ fashion coordinator, “Monia Fath El-Bab,” said that this work is “dramatic and not historical.”

But this response did not convince the critics, who did not see in the dramatic context of the work a justification for not adhering to the details of the temporal and spatial framework in which it takes place.

The inconsistency of the actors ’appearance with the historical period presented by the series was not the only reason for the attack on the Ramadan drama.

Followers, especially specialists in history and civilizations, spotted a number of other errors in the costumes of actors and weapons used in the battles depicted in the series.

And they saw in the filming and decoration of the battles “a reproduction of foreign series that dealt with different civilizations and historical periods than the one presented by the King series.”

Some specialists counted dozens of errors in the three-minute video.

But the critics held the work’s director and his crew the greatest responsibility for what they considered “unpardonable and unjustifiable mistakes” in a work of this size and importance, especially as it tells about the history of Egypt.

Some considered this series “underestimating” the viewers, as well as the country’s history and civilization.

Some bemoaned the budget allocated for this work.
