Egyptian club Zamalek came out with a historic victory at the stadium of their host Mouloudia Algeria (2-0) in the meeting that brought them together on Saturday, in the fifth round of the group stage stage of the African Champions League for football.
The Egyptian team’s double was signed by each of the players, strikers Youssef Ibrahim Obama and Mahmoud Abdel-Razek Shikabala, in the 7 and 33 minutes, respectively, from the time of the first half of the meeting at the stadium “July 5 1962” in the Algerian city of Cheraga.
Zamalek thus achieved a historic victory over Mouloudia, as it was the first victory for the “White Knight” over an Algerian team in their own home.
Zamalek revived its hopes of continuing the competition for the second qualifying card to the quarter-finals of the African Champions League for football, raising its score to 5 points, and ranks third, three points ahead of Mouloudia Algeria, the runner-up.
While Tunisias Esperance tops the fourth group standings, with 10 points, it suffered a surprise defeat in this round (1-2) by its host, Senegalese team Tongaith, who is ranked last fourth with 4 points.
