Tunisian Esperance suffered a surprise defeat by its host, Senegalese team Tongith, 2-1, in the meeting that brought the two teams together this evening, Saturday, in the fifth and penultimate round of Group D, of the African Champions League for the current season 2020-2021.
A positive tie, 1-1, dominated the events of the first half, as Esperance was the first team to score by Mohamed Ali Bin Ramadan in the 28th minute of the match, with a great shot that fell to the left of Tongith goalkeeper from a direct free kick.
However, the Senegalese team managed to equalize in the 38th minute by player Niang from a scissor kick to the left of the Esperance goalkeeper.
In the second half, Tongith team succeeded in scoring the second goal and winning the match through Bayi Djiby Diop in the 72nd minute of the match.
Esperance remained at the top of Group D with 10 points, and guaranteed qualification to the quarter-finals of the African Champions League, two points ahead of MCA with 8 points, and Tongeth raised its score to fourth point to finish third and finally Zamalek with two points.
Esperance faces Mouloudia Algeria in the sixth and final round of the group stage of the African Champions League this season.
Zamalek club will meet its host, Mouloudia of Algeria, at 9 pm today in the same group, and there is no alternative for the white genie except to win, and any other result will be officially deposited in the competition.
