Zamalek club won an important and fateful victory over MCA with two clean goals, this evening, Saturday, in the matches of the fifth round of the African Champions League groups.
Zamalek’s victory preserved its chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the African Championship, especially after Tunisias Esperance lost to Senegalese Tiongate with two goals to one this evening as well.
Esperance secured qualification for the quarter-finals of the Champions League after it ranked first in Group D with 10 points, against Mouloudia with eight points, then Zamalek with five points, and finally Tionjet with four points.
Zamalek needs to beat Tiongate in any result to maintain the chances of qualifying for the next round, but his fate will be linked to the other meeting between Esperance and Mouloudia in Tunisia.
Zamalek does not need to achieve a certain number of goals during the next confrontation, especially since the victory means his departure from the Senegalese champion, in conjunction with his beating MCA in direct confrontations (0-0 in the back and 0-2 forward).
In order to resort to direct confrontations, Zamalek needs to draw points with MCA, which will only be achieved if the latter loses in their confrontation with Esperance only.
Mouloudias loss against Esperance will only elevate Zamalek to the African quarter-finals, while the victory of the Algerian champion, if the two teams are tied in the match, will mean the Egyptian representative is officially out of the competition.
