A foreign coach is close to training Al-Ahly basket

Portuguese Mario Palma is close to assuming the position of coach of the basketball team at Al-Ahly Club during the coming period, succeeding Ashraf Tawfik.

The Board of Directors of Al-Ahly Club had accepted Ashraf Tawfiq’s apology and his resignation from coaching the team after the recent loss in the Egyptian Cup Final against Al-Ittihad of Alexandria.

Mario Palma is one of the coaches with strong personalities in basketball in the African continent, where he was led by the Angolan national team, as well as by the Angolan first August team and also the Tunisian national team, and he won many titles.

A responsible source said in statements to “Yallakora” that negotiations had already taken place with the Portuguese coach during the last 24 hours, and many details had been agreed on the terms of the contract.

The source indicated that there is a session scheduled to take place between Mahmoud Al-Khatib, President of Al-Ahly, and Ibrahim Al-Kafrawi, a member of the Board of Directors and the supervisor of the executive body, to discuss the report of the Technical Committee for Sports Activity.

The source confirmed that the session of Al-Khatib and Al-Kafrawi will be decisive regarding the file of contracting with Mario Palma.

The source concluded his statements by noting that the contract period with the Portuguese coach will be two months, provided that the situation will be evaluated after that to renew the contract or not, and the coach will accompany him as an assistant in the new technical staff of Al-Ahly.

Al-Ahly will play the semi-finals of the Super League against Al-Ittihad of Alexandria, after Zamalek ends its African participation, as there is a suspension of activity at the present time.
