On Thursday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, to follow up “the projects to develop the Suez Canal, as well as the results of investigations and conclusions learned from the accident of stranding of the container ship Evergreen.”
Ambassador Bassam Radi, spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that Lieutenant General Osama Rabie reviewed all the details of the accident of the “Evergreen” ship, in addition to the results of investigations and developments in negotiations with the ship’s owners regarding compensation resulting from the suspension of navigation in the canal, rescue operations, flotation and repairs to the sides of the canal.
In the same context, the head of the Suez Canal Authority confirmed the continuation of plans to develop the navigation course of the canal during the coming period, as well as strengthening efforts to support the authority’s rescue sector capabilities of locomotives, devices and equipment, along with increasing training programs.
The President again expressed his appreciation for the successful management of the ship’s delinquency crisis, which was carried out with the efforts and expertise of pure Egyptian, directing the continuation of projects to develop the facilities of the Suez Canal Authority and its shipping course as the most important artery for global trade, in order to enhance the unique strategic position of the canal in the world, while providing all the necessary capabilities in This regard,
The Spokesman added that the meeting also witnessed the review of the statement of the navigation movement in the Suez Canal during the period from last January until now, in terms of the number of ships, cargo tonnage and the total revenues of the canal.
