Director of dams in northern and eastern Syria to RT: The water level of the Euphrates River has decreased by 5 meters for the first time in its history

The director of dams in northern and eastern Syria told RT that the water level of the Euphrates River has decreased for the first time in its history by about 5 meters and 20 cm.

Mohamed Tarboush, director of dams in northern and eastern Syria, added that the incoming of the Euphrates River according to the international agreements signed between Syria, Turkey and Iraq is 200 cubic meters per second, out of 500 cubic meters per second.

Tarboush explained that there are at least three million people who are at risk of food security due to the interruption of irrigation, which is expected to stop with more water levels, as well as drinking water, as at least three million people depend on the Euphrates water for drinking, distributed among the cities of Ain al-Arab, Manbij, Raqqa and Deir Ezzor And the countryside scattered around these cities and along the river.
