FIFA announced this morning, Thursday, the postponement of the African qualifying matches for the World Cup, which are scheduled to be organized by Qatar 2022.
The official FIFA website stated that the decision to postpone the delay was due to the Coronavirus (Covid 19) pandemic.
FIFA’s statement came as follows:
FIFA confirms that, in cooperation with the Confederation of African Football and in view of the current situation affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to ensure optimal playing conditions for all teams, it has decided to postpone the African qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which were to be played in June 2021.
The qualifying matches have been rescheduled for September, October and November 2021, as well as March 2022.
It is decided that the Egyptian national team will participate in the African World Cup qualifiers, where the “Pharaohs” team is in Group F with Libya, Gabon and Angola.
