An official source in the tripartite committee that manages the Egyptian Football Association confirmed that the principle of sporting merit is still adopted in the criteria for the Premier League competition for the current season and has not been canceled as some rumored.
The principle of sports merit was introduced in the laws of the league competition by the previous committee of the Football Association headed by Amr Al-Ganaini and provides for the method of settling the league’s teams ranking if it is canceled for any compelling circumstances.
And Mazen Marzouq, the former head of the Competitions Committee, confirmed that the criteria for applying the principle of sports merit stipulate the following:
1- Half of the entire season has passed.
2- Conducting the following equation: “The number of points scored by each team divided by the number of matches it played.”
3- In the event of a tie, another equation is made for the difference in goals scored and received, which is: The goal difference divided by the number of matches.
4- In the event of a tie, another equation is made for the number of goals scored only, which is: the number of goals scored divided by the number of matches.
A number of clubs objected to the principle of sports merit after the appointment of the new tripartite committee headed by Ahmed Mujahid during a meeting held at the Federation headquarters at the end of last January.
A source of the tripartite committee of the Football Association – who preferred not to be named – said in exclusive statements to Lilakora today, Tuesday: “The principle of sports merit is still adopted in the criteria for the league competition and has not been canceled.”
He added, “We will apply the principle if the league is canceled for any compelling circumstances, on the condition that half of the league matches are played, with a minimum of 153 games.”
When asked about the criteria for ending the half of the season, does it mean playing the first round in its entirety or being satisfied with the number of matches that were played, the source replied briefly: “We have not defined this matter yet.”
With the end of Monday night’s matches, it was confirmed that the number of matches played in the current season exceeded 170 games per season, which allows the use of the principle of sporting merit if the league is canceled for any compelling circumstances during the next period.
The decisions of the Confederation of African Football “CAF” on Tuesday morning regarding the system of the Confederate Champions League for the new season 2021-2022 to put the Egyptian League in real trouble during the coming period after CAF set the next June 30 as the date for the local federations in the continent in order to send the names of their representatives from Teams in the two championships next year, with a deadline set for next July 30 to present the final lists for the teams. The Egyptian Football Association had set September 30 as the date for ending the last match in the current season’s league, which would make a gap between sending the African lists and the opening of the first local registration period next October for nearly 3 full months.
