The Italian newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport” said today, Monday, that the doctor accused in the death of David Astori, the Verentina player, has been convicted and sentenced to one year in prison.
And Astori died, in March 2018, after suffering a heart attack, which he suffered while in his hotel room before his team’s match against Udinese in the Italian League.
The newspaper pointed out that an Asturian doctor allowed him to continue playing football in July 2017, seven months before his death, while public prosecutors believed that the doctor had to conduct more examinations of the player based on the results of the heart stress test.
For his part, Siegfredo Fenius, the doctor’s lawyer, commented on the ruling against his client and said that he would appeal the ruling.
