The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the launch of political consultations with Turkey, headed by Ambassador Hamdi Sanad Loza, Deputy Foreign Minister, and Ambassador Sadat Onal, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister, from 5 to 6 May in Cairo.
The Foreign Ministry said, in an official statement, a short while ago, that the exploratory discussions will focus on the necessary steps that may lead to the normalization of relations between the two countries at the bilateral level and in the regional context.
The last period has witnessed statements issued by Turkish officials, through which they expressed their country’s desire for rapprochement and an end to the years of estrangement with Egypt, as the spokesman for the Turkish presidency, last March, described Egypt as “the heart and mind of the Arab world,” stressing his country’s readiness to open a new page with Egypt. .
As for Egypt, it stipulated not to interfere in internal issues or to prejudice Egyptian national security, and Sameh Shukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said: “If we find that there is a change in the Turkish policy towards Egypt and not to interfere in internal affairs and pursue regional policies in line with the Egyptian policy, this may be a ground. And a starting point for normal relations. “
In mid-April, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced an upcoming Turkish-Egyptian meeting at the level of the two foreign ministers’ assistants, indicating that work is underway between the two sides to determine the date.
The Turkish foreign minister stressed that there is “a new phase that begins between Turkey and Egypt, and there could be reciprocal visits in the coming period,” according to what was reported by the Turkish “Anatolia” news agency.
