American actress Olympia Dukakis died in New York City on Saturday at the age of 89.
Alison Levy, her agent, said that Dukakis died at her home on Saturday morning after her health deteriorated for months, and her daughter Christina Zurich was by her side.
Dukakis won an Oscar for her role in the 1987 romantic comedy “Moon Struck” as a middle-aged satirist who advises her powerful daughter on matters of love.
Dukakis was born to immigrant parents from Greece in the state of Massachusetts, and performed many roles in theater, television and cinema before coming to fame at the age of fifty-six through her role in the movie “Moon Struck”.
