Yogesh Singh, the official of the Sundowns team, stated that the management of the South African club has full respect for Al-Ahly, the holders of the African Champions League.
The CAF Champions League draw had landed Sundowns in Al-Ahly Road in the quarter-finals of the tournament that took place on Friday at the African Union headquarters in Cairo.
“We knew that we would face Al-Ahly or the Algerian team or Kaizer Chiefs, so falling with Al-Ahly was not a surprise,” Singh said through Laila Koura’s remarks today, Saturday.
He added: “We are happy with this draw. It will be a very strong match. We have great respect for Al-Ahly club, which has 9 Champions League titles. We all respect Al-Ahly and are not afraid of it.”
He continued: “We played against Al-Ahly in the quarter-finals of the champions in 2019 and won them five in Pretoria, the technical staff of the team and the players are excited as well as the fans waiting for a big match.”
Al-Ahly will go into the Champions League quarter-final first leg against the Sundowns in Egypt on the 14th, 15th or 16th of next May, provided that the return match in South Africa is one of the 21st, 22nd or 23rd of the same month.
