Kermit Erasmus and Aubrey Modiba, the Sundowns duo, were injured against Orlando Pirates on Sunday in the 26th week of the South African League championship.
Kermit Erasmus, the team’s striker, fell from a severe injury to his left foot after a violent run over at the end of the first half, and was unable to complete the match to be replaced between the two halves of the match.
In the 63rd minute, another injury hit the ranks of the Sundowns after Aubrey Modiba fell from a muscle injury, and he was unable to complete the match to be substituted as well.
Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates by three goals, signed by Ricardo Nascimento, captain of the team, from a penalty kick, Peter Shalolili and Lyle Lacay in the 57th, 76th and 80th minutes of the match.
Sundowns rose to the top of the league after achieving the first victory in the last four rounds, raising its tally to 51 points from 24 points against Amazulu, second-placed, by 50 points from 26 games.
The draw for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League placed Al-Ahly against the Sundowns after Al-Ahmar climbed to the playoffs, accompanied by Simba, a Tanzanian, from the first group.
Al-Ahly competes in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against the Sundowns in Egypt on the 14th, 15th or 16th of May, provided that the return match in South Africa is one of the 21st, 22nd or 23rd of the same month.
It is noteworthy that the defending champion Al-Ahly faced the Sundowns in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last version, and succeeded in overcoming it and continued the journey of winning the African title for the ninth time in its history.
