Media reports revealed that the French national team is in a state of tension after statements made by striker Olivier Giroud, and his teammate Kylian Mbappe saw them as directed against him.
Giroa complained, in statements he made after the end of the friendly match between France and Bulgaria (3-0) last Tuesday, that the ball did not reach him.
When asked by a reporter about the reason for his “calm” performance in the match, Giroud replied frankly, “You say I was calm, but that’s because sometimes I ask for the ball and it doesn’t reach me.”
“With two good passes from Ibn Yedder and Bavar, I managed to finish the match well, but we could have scored more goals if we were more efficient,” added Giroud, who came on as a substitute in the Bulgaria match and scored two goals.
Although Giroud’s statement seems normal, the French media confirmed that Mbappe was not satisfied with what his colleague had done, and asked to speak to the media, although he was not the person concerned with what Giroud said.
According to the newspaper “L’Equipe”, coach Didier Deschamps refused to allow Mbappe to speak to the media so as not to tense the atmosphere in the French team, before traveling to Munich to face Germany in the opening of his European Nations Cup campaign.
France is considered the biggest candidate to win the continental championship, and it will also face Hungary and Portugal in the group stage.
