The Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries has announced the opening of registration for films wishing to participate in the 37th session, which is scheduled to take place from September 25 to October 2, provided that requests for films from all Mediterranean countries will continue to be received, until July 31 at the latest. Film critic Prince Abaza, president of the Egyptian Association of Film Writers and Critics and head of the festival, says that the delay in opening the door for participation this year due to the repercussions of the Corona virus will not have any negative impact on the number of countries participating in the festival or the types of films, and also confirms that the festival will continue to take all necessary measures. To preserve the health of all participants, workers and attendees, in cooperation with the relevant ministries and sponsoring companies, and under the supervision of the World Health Organization.

Prince Abaza pointed out that the last session bore the name of the great artist Izzat Al-Alayli, during which a number of Egyptian filmmakers were honored, led by the great director Enas Al-Deghaidi, the great artist Salah Abdullah, the great director of photography Mohsen Ahmed, the Syrian artist Raghda, the Moroccan director Daoud Welad Sayed and the Spanish director and writer Marc Serena. And the Lebanese artist, Carole Samaha, and the Lebanese state honored the festival’s guest of honor in support of her in the circumstances she went through after the bombing of the port of Beirut.

Abaza added that the technical office has begun selecting a group of distinguished films to be shown in the sections of the 37th session, as it aims to participate in 150 films in the festival’s sections and its various competitions.
The Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, one of the oldest festivals in the Arab world, Africa and the countries bordering the Mediterranean, and the most regular in recent years. Its first session was held in 1979.
