Champions reward .. Tuchel officially extends his contract with Chelsea

Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has signed a two-year contract with his current team after leading them to the Champions League title.

The German replaced Frank Lampard in January and also led Chelsea to the FA Cup final and the Premier League semi-finals in his first four months since taking charge.

Tuchel signed an 18-month contract with Chelsea at this time, but was rewarded for his successful start with the team by extending his contract to expire at the end of the 2023/2024 season.

“I can’t imagine a better opportunity to renew my contract,” Tuchel told Chelseas official website on Friday. “I am happy with this experience and very happy to remain part of the Chelsea family.”

He added, “There is more and we look forward to our next steps with great ambition and anticipation.”

Tuchel has won 19 wins, drawn six matches and lost five in the 30 matches he led Chelsea in all competitions, and conceded only 16 goals during that period.

Since his first game in charge of Chelsea on January 27, no team has lost less, conceded fewer goals or kept a clean sheet (19 games) in all competitions like Chelsea.

Chelsea lost 1-0 to Leicester City in the FA Cup final on May 15, but they overtook Leicester and finished fourth in the Premier League, knowing that the team was ninth when Tuchel took over his coaching, and Chelsea beat Manchester City with a clean goal in the final Champions League.

After the victory over Manchester City in Porto, with the goal scored by Kai Havertz, Tuchel indicated that his agent had reached an agreement for him with Chelsea on the night of the Champions League crown.

“When Thomas joined us in January there was a lot to play for domestically and in Europe,” said Marina Granovskaya, Chelseas chief executive.

She added: “Our return to the semi-finals in the Premier League was decisive, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League, which crowned an unforgettable season for the team.”

She confirmed, “Obviously, we are happy that we will retain Tuchel’s services for two more years, and we look forward to more successes in the coming seasons.”
