The United States has purchased 500 million doses of the Corona virus vaccine produced by Pfizer, and intends to donate them and distribute them around the world.
The United States seeks to be a major player in vaccinating other countries.
US President Joe Biden will announce it at the G7 summit in Cornwall, UK, on Thursday, a person familiar with the matter told CNN.
About 200 million of the expected doses will be distributed outside the United States in 2021, and another 300 million will be distributed in the first half of 2022.
Biden’s senior adviser to the White House coronavirus response coordinator, Jeff Zentes, was working on the deal last month, a familiar source said.
All doses will go through Kovacs, the International Vaccine Initiative, and will go to 92 lower and low-income countries, as well as the African Union.
