Barcelona said in a statement: “Osmane Dembele will undergo surgery on the 28th of June on the right knee tendon in Finland.”
“The operation will be carried out by Dr. Las Lempinen, under the supervision of FC Barcelona doctors,” the statement added.
The statement concluded, “Once the process is completed, the result and the duration of the player’s absence will be notified.”
Dembele underwent medical examinations on Tuesday morning before Barcelonas doctors confirmed that he needed surgery.
Dembele had participated as a substitute with France against Hungary in Euro 2020, before leaving due to injury.
The French national team announced that Dembele was excluded from the team’s squad in the Euros due to injury.
Dembele played 44 games this season with Barcelona and scored 11 goals with the Catalan team.
The French newspaper L’Equipe had revealed the seriousness of the player’s injury to his right knee.
The report indicated the possibility of Dembele’s absence from the stadiums for 4 months.
France will play Portugal on Wednesday at the end of Group F matches.
