Robert Lewandowski – Poland and Slovakia – Euro 2020
Poland’s Robert Lewandowski believes that his team has become in a difficult situation, after the defeat against Slovakia at Euro 2020.
Slovakia defeated Poland 2-1 in the Group E competitions of the tournament.
“We had some injuries recently and we weren’t able to play the game with a perfect formation, but we had no choice and we had to take responsibility for how we played or rather how we didn’t play, it’s football and we can’t blame the injuries,” Lewandowski told TVB Sport.
Poland’s forward Milek and Piontik were injured before the start of the tournament.
He continued, “We lost to the easier opponent in theory, so we are in a very difficult situation and we will do everything we can to improve it. We need to focus on the individual mistakes that occurred to us recently so that we do not chase the result and start the match from scratch.”
He added, “We dominated the match after the equalizer, we had possession and created some chances, everything was indicating that we were going to score, and suddenly the red card thwarted all our plans, Skriniar scored among five players, but in this tournament, if such mistakes happen the opponents will not be forgiven.”
We work as a team and as a team we need to move forward with our game and get a better result from it. We know it will be a difficult task, but in the Euro anything can happen and we have to deal with the next two matches with the conviction that we will play to qualify.”
Slovakias victory put it at the top of Group E with three points ahead of the Spain-Sweden match.
Meanwhile, Poland will play Spain in the next match on Saturday 19th June at the Olimpico de Seville in Spain.
Slovakia will meet Sweden in the next match on Friday, June 18 at Aviva Stadium in Ireland.
