Shawky Gharib – the Olympic team crowned the African Nations U-23 title
The football events in the Olympics will be held from July 21 to August 7, but the team will need to enter a medical bubble before this period.
In the event that Al-Ahly beat Esperance in the African Champions League semi-finals, the competition’s final will take place on July 17, which may conflict with the Olympic team.
Shawky Gharib told “on time sports 2”: “We will represent Egypt in a global forum, and Al-Ahly represents Egypt in a continental forum.”
He added, “After the Esperance matches, we will hold a session with Sayed Abdel Hafeez to coordinate the process of selecting players for the team’s list in the Olympics.”
He continued, “I may not include Mohamed El-Shennawy if there is no problem in the Olympic team goalkeeper.”
“I may include two over-aged defenders in the Olympic team,” he added.
And he continued, “I chose 8 players over the age to choose 3 players from them, and my final decision on the full list will be on June 30.”
And about Omar Marmoush, a St. Pauli player who joined the national team, he said: “He suffers from a minor injury at the present time and his participation in the Olympics is like the rest of the players.”
On the inclusion of Mohamed Salah in the list, he concluded, “We are waiting for Liverpool’s response to us.”
