Emiliano Buendia with Norwich City against Arsenal
In an official statement, the club announced the signing of the 24-year-old player for five years in a deal that is the most expensive in the club’s history.
According to reports, the deal cost the club 35 million euros, to be the most expensive player in the club’s history, and the Argentine player has become the most expensive sale in the history of Norwich City.
Aston Villa coach Dean Smith spoke on the club’s official website, saying: “Emiliano has just completed a fantastic season with Norwich City in the first division with his contribution to 31 goals, and was also named the player of the tournament.”
“He plays just as well as a striker or as a number 10, which is a great addition to our attacking options,” Smith added.
Buendia participated with Norwich City during the past season in 41 games in all competitions, during which he scored 15 goals and assisted 15 others, and contributed to the team’s occupation of first place in the First Division and the rise of the team to the English Premier League.
Several reports had confirmed Arsenal’s interest in contracting the player and submitting an official offer to join him, but Aston Villa eventually succeeded in kidnapping the player.
Aston Villa finished their season 11th in the Premier League table.
Buendia is preparing to participate with the Argentina national team in the Copa America 2020, after he was selected for the participating list by coach Luenel Scaloni.
Argentina were drawn into Group A along with Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile.
