Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola confirmed that Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman deserves to remain at the helm of the Catalan team’s technical management in the coming period, adding that he spoke with club president Joan Laporta and confirmed his conviction in the decision to keep the Dutch coach.
Guardiola will participate, on Monday morning, in the Legends Cup, which was held at the Bola Golf Course in Mallorca.
Speaking to the Catalan newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, Pep was asked about the situation of current Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman, and said: “It has been a difficult year, but Barcelona did well for a large part of the season.”
He added: “Koman deserves to continue for another season, the second years are always better than the first, I am very happy with the decision to keep him, I spoke with the president and he is satisfied with the decision.”
He continued: “Defeats weaken any coach, but things will go for the better at the beginning of next season, the fans will return to the stadiums, things will be completely different from this year.”
He explained: “I have coached 3 different clubs, nothing compares to the media in Barcelona or Madrid, the impact is much greater, everything is especially difficult to control, and I discussed this with Ronald.”
On his relationship with Ancelotti, the new Real Madrid coach, he said: “I have a good relationship with Carlo, he is an exceptional coach and his tactical intuition is very intelligent, and I am very happy for him.”
When asked about Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcias transfer to Barcelona, he replied: “Two wonderful contracts. Aguero is a top scorer and Garcia will be one of Barcelonas leaders in the next decade.”
In response to Barcelonas interest in him, Pep said: “I have a two-year contract with Manchester City… I am happy with them.”
